Motivational interviewing for employment: An exploration of practitioner skill and client change talk

Abstract Motivational interviewing (MI) is an evidenced‐based approach for building and strengthening motivation change. The effect of MI training on practitioner conversations with unemployed clients within a government work income service was evaluated using mixed‐method approach, comprising multiple‐baseline across ( n = 5) design pre/post quasi‐experimental design. After workshop training, practitioners demonstrated greater skills in clients, were maintained during the period post‐workshop feedback coaching.
